Glucose Tolerance Test, 1 hour screen (Gestational)

Important Note

*This test is orderable in Cerner as GTT OBS 1 hr 50 gm

Patient will be instructed to drink a glucose dosage and wait on site 1 hour to have blood drawn.

Container/Tube:

Preferred: Light-green top (lithium heparin gel)

Acceptable: Red top, serum gel

Specimen Volume: Full tube

Specimen Minimum Volume: 2 mL

Collection Instructions:

1. Give patient a 50 g dose of glucose beverage, noting time of ingestion (patient must drink entire beverage within 5 minutes).

2. Draw blood 1 hour after ingestion of glucose beverage.

3. Send specimen in original tube.

4. If there is a delay in transport of >1 hour, centrifuge tube.
