Scope of Service

North Country Hospital Laboratory provides critical patient information for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of disease or assessment of health conditions.  With our expansive test menu, advanced instrumentation, and technical expertise, we strive to meet the needs of our community by being a vital member of the healthcare team and contributing to the advancement of laboratory medicine.

Our highly skilled laboratory team is led by a board registered pathologist and includes:

  • Lab Assistants/Phlebotomists.  Our phlebotomists process orders, collect specimens, and perform EKGs.  They’re trained to serve patients of all ages (neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric) with privacy and dignity.
  • Technologists.  Our technologists have completed a degree in Medical Laboratory Science and are board certified.  They are skilled in such disciplines as hematology, chemistry, microbiology, immunology, blood banking, and urinalysis.
  • Pathologist/Medical Director.  Our pathologist is an experienced medical doctor who works closely with NCH clinicians by examining tissues or bodily fluids to diagnose the presence or absence of disease.

North Country Hospital Laboratory serves every department at North Country Hospital, our medical practices, and several outreach locations including skilled nursing facilities and Northern Express Care Newport.  Our laboratory adheres to the highest standards of quality and patient safety and is inspected and accredited by the College of American Pathologists.  CAP, FDA, CLIA, OSHA, DNV, as well as applicable federal, state, and local guidelines are followed.
